English Grammar Theme : Both

Both always refer to two things, two people, etc.

Both is very similar to ALL (which refers to more than two).

Example:
Both can be used with a singular noun + AND + a singular noun; BOTH + OF cannot.

(a) Both my mother (singular noun) and sister in law (singular noun) will come to the United Kingdom on the 21st December 2010. (CORRECT).

(b) Both of my mother and sister in law will come to the United Kingdom on the 21st December 2010. (INCORRECT).

More examples :
Both of his parents (CORRECT).
Bothe of the players (CORRECT).
